We found Maja hiding in a bush near a busy street. Somebody had
told us where to find her. Otherwise, no one could have ever taken notice of her.
Maja was already lying sideways, she was ready to die. She could barely move her head because she was so weak. Who knows how long it had been since she had eaten and drunk? She struggled to survive for serveral weeks. Since she had been diagnosed with leishmaniosis, we thought her life expectancy to be short.
It was in summer of 2018. The heat was unbearable and the sun was blazing. Maja, or rather a bag of bones, was lying in the car, all windows down. We were thinking about where to take her. She was a picture of misery. Tucked in, you didn’t know where she began and ended. We weren’t certain if she was still alive.
But our girl survived. She was strong and had an even stronger will to live. This time around
we promised her something that we could fulfill a year later. Maja kept her name, since it suited her so well.
She is one of the loveliest and most greateful dogs we have ever gotten to know. Her adoptive family is over the moon and she still lives with them– happy, content and grateful. We can visit her any time we want, which we happily accept.
